You are currently here: Skip Navigation LinksHome : Residential Tenancy Law

Tenancy laws are about the rights and obligations of tenants and landlords under a written tenancy agreement. It covers issues such as paying bonds, evictions; rent increases, ending a tenancy and what details must be in a tenancy agreement. We can help by giving you information about your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and the rights and responsibilities of the landlord. Issues with tenancy are dealt with by a specialist tribunal; the Tenancy Tribunal. Like the Disputes Tribunal you have to represent yourself.

We can assist by helping you prepare for the hearing and explaining the way the Tenancy Tribunal works so you are prepared.

Example:
Bob gets a letter in the mail from his landlord. It says that he is raising his rent from $95.00 to $105.00 per week effective in 60 days. 1 month later Bob gets another letter from him saying that he is raising the rent to $115.00 per week now.
